book club

Over a year ago myself and 5 others set up a monthly book club, the goal was to read one book every month, we would all take turns to host the book club, make nibbles and drink copious amounts of wine, while picking the chosen book to pieces. A year later we are still going strong, with 6 members of mixed ages, there are varied views and lots of interesting discussion. I was the host this month and made a delicious Jamie Oliver Chicken Tikka & lentil salad, from his 15 Minute Meal recipe book and the Waitrose strawberry ice-cream cake, recipes below.

We had a 6 week gap this time so we decided to read 2 books, so here goes my attempt at the reviews.....

Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn

"There are two sides to every story"

This book starts off as a typical "chic -lit" boy meets girl until the main character Amy goes missing out of the blue, the story then proceeds to flip between husband vs wife accounts of what is going on, there are numerous twists and as soon as you think you have sussed it out, you flip the page and it all takes another turn..... I found this a complete page turner and advise you all to give it a go......
9/10 "page turner"

Prohpet of Bones, Ted Kosmatka

"An ancient discovery, A hidden past, A deadly consipracy to bury the truth"

This is certainly one for the wannbe scientists out there, fairly complex desciptions of genetics, evolutionary theories and chromosomal investigations, this meant that some of the group struggled with some of the concepts. However  absolutely loved it, to summarise "Prophet of Bones" reads as partly 007, partly David Attenborough and partly Planet of the Apes..........

And next month's book is my choice of "Tony Hogan Bought me an Ice Cream Float before he stole my ma" by Kerry Hudson, this book follows a poverty stricken Scottish family through the trouble and strife of everyday life.....
