national burger day 27.08.13

yesterday was National Burger Day and Mr Hyde were offering 20% discount on array of burger restaurants throughout London, we thought it would be rude not to celebrate! we stopped off at The Book Club for a few pre-drinks and were hoping to have a game of ping pong @ King pong , but you need to get in there quick.

we then headed over to Hache Shoreditch, I opted for the steak Bavarian - topped with smoked cheese and caramelised onions in a ciabatta bun, delicious, Ed opted for a double whammy of burger with pulled pork topping, Kerrin had the low calorie iceberg lettuce bun & burger , equally as good, Jordan went back to basics with steak and chips and Michelle overindulged on the Oreo milkshake, only leaving room for Nachos...
would definitely recommend giving this place a go, cool interior, glam toilets and overall good vibe, plus the burgers were immense!!

day trip to Columbia Road Flower Market

last Sunday I headed back to East London, where I used to live a few years back to visit Columbia Road Flower Market, one of my favourite places to go early on a Sunday morning, what's not to love, fresh coffee, cake, flowers in abundance, salmon and cream cheese bagels and a energy and buzz that makes you smile....

First stop Cakehole tea rooms, at the back of a vintage china shop, this is the perfect place to enjoy a HUGE slice of cake and a pot of tea...... I had the blueberry and pear almond cake, which was delicious and the perfect start to the morning, think crochet granny cushions, mismatched crockery and interesting quirky things to look at, we loved the scrabble piece sign...

we then had a browse around the shops, I loved these vintage look alarm clocks and I sooo wanted to buy one of these teddies, my sister needs to hurry up and have a baby so I can buy them all :)

And of course here are the flowers, they are beautiful and soooo cheap, prices range from £3-£6 for a bunch, dependent on what you choose....

the live music was very cool and I could have sat on the curb for hours listening to them with a bacon bap...

last stop was Vanilli's in the courtyard for a quick coffee and a pistachio meringue, delicious, also the music was very cool and we were loving a bit of daft punk blaring out of the speakers! I miss East London ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

project: craft a card

my best friend Sarah got a new job yesterday, clever lady and so I wanted to make her a congratulations card...

I recently subscribed to Mollie Makes magazine and received a free sample of a variety of different brightly coloured felts and ditsy print fabrics, so I dug out my "buttons & bits" box et voila.......

awesome cheesecake pavlova recipe

i made this a couple of weeks ago for a family Sunday lunch, went down a storm, bloody delicious!!!
Why make the hard choice between cheesecake or pavlova when you can combine the two!

Makes: Approx 7-8 portions
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time:-10-12 minutes

Ingredients

200g egg whites at room temperature (roughly 4-6 medium eggs)
pinch cream of tartar
400g castor sugar
1 tsp cornflour
1 tsp Balsamic vinegar
2 tsp vanilla essence

1 x 200g tubs full fat soft cheese
1 x 397g can condensed milk
100g blueberries
100g frozen raspberries, defrosted
finely grated zest and juice of 2 large lemons

Method
  1. Pre-heat the oven to 120° C, Gas ½.
  2. Place the egg whites and cream of tartar into a mixing bowl and whisk until light and foamy.
  3. Add half the sugar and whisk again, then finally add the rest of the sugar, whisking until very glossy and stiff. Do not over whisk.
  4. Remove the bowl from the machine and fold in the cornflour, vanilla and vinegar, then mix well.
  5. Spoon baking parchment roughly two 15cm discs, and place into the pre heated oven and cook for 1 hour 15 minutes.
  6. Whisk the cream cheese and condensed milk together for 10 minutes.
  7. Add the fruits (and raspberry juice) and mix well, finally add the lemon juice and zest and mix carefully.
  8. Spoon onto the base meringue and top with the other.

product of the week: String pocket

I string pocket and am waiting for mine to arrive any day now, I love the versatility of the simple yet timeless design, I can't decide what to disply on mine yet, but watch this space....

string pocket shelving is the 'starter' or smallest composition in the String collection. Designed in 1949 by Swedish architect Nils Strinning, String has won several coveted awards. Its simple construction of a powder coated steel frame on which wooden elements hang gives the String Shelving system a refined, timeless unpretentious appeal which add to its enduring popularity and highly practical versatility.
the string pocket pack is an all-in-one box set comprising of a composition made up of three shelves and two side panels in various colour ways, offering a complete 'starter' shelving system from the String range. It consists of a wall shelf of two side panels (50cm high by 15cm deep) and three shelves which are 60cm long.

available from Utility for £93.50
